Tips to sip smart.

Sipping Alcohol During the Holidays - Tips by The Healthy Weight Loss Coach NYC

As the holiday season approaches, it’s important to enjoy the festivities with a mindful and holistic approach. Fun is a must, but there’s always room for smarter choices!

Here’s a quick guide to help you make better decisions before, during, and after the celebrations:

1. Choose Your Wine Wisely:

When it comes to wine, opt for those labeled as "dry," as they typically contain less sugar. Some great options include:

  • Red Wines: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir

  • White Wines: Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Champagne

2. Select Mindful Cocktails:

If cocktails are your go-to, choose those made with quality spirits and low-sugar mixers. Here are some light yet delicious options:

  • Dirty martini (skip the vermouth)

  • Vodka soda with a splash of lime

  • Gin with sugar-free tonic

  • Tequila or mezcal with club soda and fresh lime juice, or on the rocks with a slice of orange

3. Balance Your Choices:

It’s easy to get carried away, so keep these tips in mind for balance and moderation:

  • Avoid drinking on an empty stomach to prevent unnecessary snacking.

  • Sip 1 cup of water between drinks to stay hydrated.

  • Limit alcohol to 2-3 drinks per night.

  • On drinking nights, drink 3 cups of water (add electrolytes for best results—linking my favorite here) before bed and the next morning.

  • Aim for at least 3 alcohol-free nights each week.

  • After a night out, have a protein-rich breakfast to curb hangover cravings.

4. The Importance of Good Company:

Above all, remember to sip only in good company, happy calories land differently :)
